Friendly Reminder to Dog Walkers; Part II

Dog walkers in Lakewood: Be mindful of others.

I would like to take this one step further.

Now that we have some responses and we can all clearly see that this is a big issue in our community; my next question is “How do we fix it?”  It’s time to be reactive instead of just chatting about it and I would love to see all of your suggestions on what can be done to inform irresponsible dog walkers on the three basic rules:

  1. Keep your dog on the sidewalk or the tree lawn, not someone’s front yard.
  2. Pick up their poop always.
  3. Never deposit the poop bag in someone else’s garbage can, just your own.

It’s always easy to complain about a problem, but it’s another thing to come together with suggestions on how to fix it and get it implemented.  There are a few options that come to my mind,

  1. Approaching the dog walker and informing them of the three basic rules.  (Can be kind of dangerous).
  2. Putting signs in our front yards informing them of the three basic rules.  (Really don’t want our city to be cluttered with signs).
  3. A letter campaign to all dog owners in Lakewood explaining the three basic rules.  (Could be expensive).

I also want to know how many of you know that we have a committee here in Lakewood that is dedicated to animal safety and welfare.

I think the city's website may be a great place to start.

Thoughts?  I would love to hear your suggestions because we can’t always think of solutions ourselves.
