Honoring the work and French heritage of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine

Les Anges Vivants – The Living Angels

There are living angels among us, “les anges vivants.” And many in our
community, including students, teachers and supporters of Lakewood Catholic
Academy (LCA) have been touched by these angels – the Sisters of Charity of St.
Augustine.

As the Sisters mark their 160-year anniversary of service in
the Greater Cleveland area, we honor them for the spirit of sacrifice and
determination that brought the first pioneering Sisters from Boulogne sur Mer,
France to Cleveland, Ohio in 1851. They were called “angels” by the sick and
poor they served in their early days – both for the white habits they wore and
for the compassion, charity and skill they shared.

Through these many years, the Sisters have remained faithful
to their calling to extend the work of Christ on earth. Their charitable
initiatives are at work in countless communities through the CSA Health System,
CSA foundations and ministry corporations. In 2005, the Sisters agreed to lease
the grounds of their former Lakewood motherhouse to pioneers in a new endeavor
– a consolidated school called Lakewood Catholic Academy.

The tranquil yet thriving grounds of LCA are a special reminder of the journey begun by the Sisters in 1851 and continued today. LCA students learn and grow in the footsteps of the living angels – the ever-faithful Sisters of Charity.

We invite you to learn more about LCA and to join us in honoring the Sisters’ work and French heritage in this very special year.

In the spirit of gratitude, Lakewood Catholic Academy will present the Insignis Award to the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine at the annual All Saints Auction on Saturday, November 5, 2011.

The Insignis Award is LCA’s highest honor, recognizing the significant impact of an individual or group on LCA through their extraordinary commitment of service.

For further information, please contact Mary Ann Campbell, Director of
Advancement at 216-521-0559, ext. 3041 and visit the auction website.
