Lakewood: Most Bikeable City?
New resident heads out to watch the Lakewood Criterium.

With one of cycling's biggest races recently finishing up (Go Cadel Evans!) my boyfriend and I have been experiencing some cycling withdrawal. So of course we were excited to see the tour had come right to Lakewood.
Okay, so not the tour exactly, but still a pretty fine big race.
I know a lot of people aren't really big fans of those who ride bikes.

You know who you are. You're the kind of people that yell to us that we should be riding on the sidewalk (even though we are perfectly within our rights riding off to the side and following traffic signals).
You're the kind of people that sigh with discontent when you see a biker ahead. Frankly, unless the cyclist is being a real moron (like intentionally driving to make things difficult) then you need to get over it. Don't ride up close to them like you are going to hit them. Also don't honk and then zoom past them on Clifton like you're auditioning for The Fast and the Furious (especially when said biker is in the curb lane...really, who needs to drive in the curb lane in Clifton?) I'm just saying...it's not worth it.

So anyway, the race. I was happy to see there was such a good outcome! It seems that Lakewood, just named the most walkable city, may soon become the most bike-able!
I hope so.
For the most part it seems that drivers are extremely respectful to respectful cyclists. However, we have a major lack of bike racks.
After seeing the crowds at the , and walking the course to see people camped out at every turn, some houses who were even hosting parties around the event, I think it's definitely time to make Lakewood more bike friendly and get some bike rakes. No more tying your bike to a tree or street sign!
I say, we want bike racks and we want them now! (Or at least by next spring? Lakewood council? Anything?) Well if we don't have good bike rakes, at least we have some good streets.
All the recent pavements have made it much better for anyone on a bike.
Congrats to all who participated in what I can't stop calling Le Tour de Lakewood! It was great to watch. Also I'd like to give a special shout out to rider 516, a part of , who was the first to end up in last place. While that might not be an accomplishment, it was clear he never gave up, which made him a crowd favorite.
