Burning River Baroque Concert

Italian Baroque Concert at Lakewood Congregational Church

Burning River Baroque will present a re-vamped version of “Obsession & Unrequited Love” on Sunday, October 5 at 4:00 p.m. at Lakewood Congregational Church. “Obsession & Unrequited Love” will feature dramatic cantatas and passionate sonatas by Italian composers from the first half of the 18th century, including Domenico Scarlatti, Antonio Vivaldi, Nicola Porpora and more. While all of the composers on the program originated in Italy, they each led full lives that included frequent travel and extended visits to distant regions. Though to the modern audience these Italian Baroque composers are perhaps not as familiar as their contemporaries, J.S. Bach and G.F. Handel, in their own day they were revered as some of the most successful and brightest stars in the musical world. The concert will shed light on works written in the spotlight that have since fallen into the shadows. Burning River Baroque is Peter Lekx, baroque violin; Malina Rauschenfels, soprano and baroque cello; and Paula Maust, harpsichord. Admission is a freewill donation. Priority seating available at www.burningriverbaroque.org. Lakewood Congregational Church is located at 1375 W Clifton Blvd.
