Cardboard Boats Set Sail at Lakewood High School

Nearly 200 students participated Wednesday in the 9th Annual Cardboard Boat Regatta at Lakewood High School.

Hundreds of students, staff and physics enthusiasts gathered for the 9th Annual Cardboard Boat Regatta at on Wednesday afternoon. 

Dave Hille, an LHS physics teacher and organizer of this popular event, had one relatively easy objective for his students: use tape and cardboard to construct a buoyant vessel that could transport two passenger s from one end of LHS’s pool to the other.  

Almost 200 students and participants eagerly built makeshift floatation devices, but only about half made it to the end of the pool without capsizing.

Seniors Dragoslav Cvijetinovic and David Reulbach had the fastest cardboard boat, won by a photo finish and were congratulated by a boom of applause from a capacity crowd.
