Woman Carjacked in Lakewood, Suspects Led Police On Car Chase

LAKEWOOD, OH — Three people allegedly carjacked a Lakewood resident, tried to break into a gun store and then led police on a multi-city chase on early Thursday morning. Two of the suspects are now in custody and a third remains on the lam.

Two men threatened a Lakewood resident while she was parking her car on Halsted Avenue, Captain Ed Hassing of Lakewood Police told Patch. One of the suspects had a gun. The two men took the resident's car and drove off. The resident was not hurt and declined medical treatment, Hassing said.

The carjacking happened a little before midnight. The suspects then reportedly drove into Cleveland and tried to break into the Cleveland Armory, a gun store, Fox 8 reported. They weren't able to get into the building.

Police were hot on the suspects' trail and caught up to them shortly after the suspects tried to get into Cleveland Armory. Various police agencies chased the suspects' car until it crashed near West 25th Street and Interstate 71.

The suspects then bailed out of the car and ran off. Valley View Police were able to track down and arrest two people. A third suspect is still loose.

The Lakewood resident's car was found by Valley View Police. It's unclear if their vehicle was the one that crashed.

Hassing said the investigation into the incident is continuing.
