LAKEWOOD, OH — On September 27, Lakewood School Resource Officer Dave Acklin discussed safety training at the schools and how the district prepares for crises. For families and residents that weren't able to attend the meeting, the district has released copies of the presentation.
Specifically addressed during the session was the ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) training being given to students for the first time. While teachers and other district employees have trained on the ALICE system for years, the 2018-2019 school year is the first time students have been directly trained for active shooter situations.
"Students have been practicing lockdown drills for many years. We want to give students a little more information on it," Acklin told Patch in late August, before the safety forum with community members.

The presentation includes details on crisis reporting, including the Stop-It-App, which allows for anonymous reporting by students, teachers, and parents; and a 24-hour hotline that can address possible incidents at each school building.
