🌱 City Given Green Award + Dispatchers Receive Ohio Gold Star Awards
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Lakewood.
Hey, neighbors! It's me again, Carla Varner, your host of the Lakewood Daily.
First, today's weather:
Mostly sunny and beautiful. High: 74 Low: 64.
Here are the top three stories in Lakewood today:
- The City of Lakewood is asking residents to fill out an anonymous Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) survey as it relates to facilities, programs, policies and procedures. Mayor Meghan George stated that it is important to make sure that the community is accessible to everyone. The survey is connected to the ADA Transition Plan Task Force which was established in 2020 after Mayor George discovered that the city had failed to meet its responsibility as it related to the law. (News 5 Cleveland WEWS)
- The City of Lakewood was recognized by the Cleveland 2030 Districts/U.S. Green Building Council for its efforts in expanding their public electric vehicle station charging infrastructure. The 2021 Green Building Challenge award was given specifically for the work the city has done to reduce transportation emissions. (Twitter)
- Four Lakewood Police Department dispatchers were nominated for Ohio Gold Star Awards for their outstanding individual achievements and contributions to Ohio's 9-1-1 system. Dispatchers Nikki Aquino and Dawn Florjancic were nominated for the way they handled the call of the collapsed parking garage at Marine Towers West in December. Tonya Graham and Christine Sykora were nominated for their work handling the call of an injured worker trapped in a trench last August on Thoreau Road. (lakewoodoh.gov)
