🌱 City To Hire Neighborhood Paramedic + City Scooter Program Problems
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Lakewood.
Good morning, neighbors. It's me, Carla Varner, your host of the Lakewood Daily — here to tell you all the most important things happening in town these days. Follow along for the latest...
First, today's weather:
Partly sunny and humid. High: 85 Low: 72.
Here are the top three stories today in Lakewood:
- In an effort to take a proactive approach to reduce 911 ambulance calls and healthcare costs, the City of Lakewood is hiring a neighborhood paramedic. Mayor Meghan George said the neighborhood paramedic will fill a gap in the city's health and wellness service to residents. "Back when we had a health department, we actually had nurses working for the city who would deliver some of these services that the neighborhood paramedic program will now be implementing," said Mayor George. - Just days after Lakewood's electric scooter pilot program began, Dr. Greg DeVor, a local dentist on Madison Avenue, said that the scooters are blocking access to his office for his elderly patients. Dr. DeVor's office sits in front of an electric scooter station designated in the city's "bicycle-scooter share" pilot program. The Lakewood dentist, whose office has been in its location for almost two decades, said that he was given no warning and that his patients have been going around the corner to be dropped off. - Roosevelt Elementary won an Ohio PBIS Bronze Recognition Award for 2022. PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) references a set of ideas and tools such as student expectations, behavior and discipline, teacher expectations, and faculty and family involvement, all of which are used to improve student behavior and school culture.
