Cleveland Metroparks Generate $873 Million Regionally: Study
The Trust for Public Land found that Greater Cleveland's park system has a major economic impact each year.

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Metroparks are a major economic engine for Northeast Ohio, according to a new study from the Trust for Public Land (TPL). The park chain reportedly generates $873 million for the region each year.
“As we work to improve connections across the Emerald Necklace through new trails and greenspace, it’s important that we continue to assess all the ways we can enhance the surrounding communities we serve,” said Cleveland Metroparks CEO Brian M. Zimmerman. “This study is an important illustration that the work we’re doing continues to bring value to the region.”
The TPL study, which was commissioned by the Metroparks, looked at the benefits the zoo, park reservations and trails have on the region. Ultimately, the study concluded, Cleveland Metroparks increase property values, reduce stormwater runoff, reduce air pollution, help community health, bring in tourists, and boost economic development.

The study found the Metroparks are crucial for local tourism, helping generate $616 million annually in direct visitor spending. The proximity to parks and well-kept trails boosted property values by approximately $155 million, the TPL said.
The TPL study was commissioned by the Cleveland Metroparks, and not an independent source. The study was funded by the George Gund Foundation.
