Community Festival Tries Again, Play Premiere and More

Looking for theater, music, food, beer or fun? We've got you covered this weekend.

Where/When: / 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday

Why Go: This weekend is take two of the Lakewood Communtiy Festival after it was rained out last Saturday. For 24 years, the Lakewood Community Festival has been celebrating  community, cultural heritage and families. The afternoon includes craft and game booths, pony rides, children’s games and other entertainment. In long-standing tradition, there will also be lots of food from stuffed cabbage, pierogies and kielbasa to pizza, French fries, and funnel cakes and more.

Where/When: / 9 p.m. Friday

Why Go: Andrew Karnavas is releasing his solo LP debut Film Noir at 9 p.m. Friday night at The Winchester. The new CD from this Americana, blues and family music artist was recorded at Houston's historic SugarHill Studios.

Where/When: / 8 p.m. Friday

Why Go: Take a trip back in time to the tune of all of your favorite songs from the 50s and 60s at the premiere of The Marvelous Wonderettes at Beck Center for the Arts. The musical follows the lives of three friends from their prom night to 10 years into the future. It's full of singing, dancing, big skirts and lots of laughs.

4. THE REAL DEAL BLUES BAND AT THE SCREAMING ROOSTER

Where/When: / 9 p.m. Saturday

Why Go: These guys play nothing but the blues. With a mix of vocals and harmonica from Gary Craft, Rick Klann on guitar, Glyde Deubel on bass and Tony Byrd on drums, The Real Deal Blues Band has played with Delta Highway, Jimmy Thakery and The Nighthawks.

Where/When: / 5-7:30 p.m. Friday

Why Go: With samples at just 25 cents, the beer tastings at Ross Deli are a great way to kick off the weekend. There will be tons of samples from craft breweries, many of which are local brands.
