Hello, everybody. It's Thursday in Lakewood and I'm back in your inbox with everything that's fit to print about what's happening in town.Keep scrolling for the scoop...

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and not as warm. High: 76 Low: 61.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Lakewood who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Lakewood Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top three stories today in Lakewood:

  1. The Lakewood City Council is considering removing the year waiting requirement to provide paid parental and childbirth leave for new hires who are expecting. "The change would remove the 12-month employment eligibility requirement to receive paid parental/childbirth leave — not solely paternity," said City Council President John Litten. Mayor Meghan George said she expects it to pass although the committee has not yet discussed it. (cleveland.com)
  2. Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb released a statement Wednesday regarding Officer Ismail Quaran who is under for investigation for "inappropriate social media posts" by the Cleveland Division of Police Internal Affairs Unit and the City of Cleveland's Ethics Officer. Officer Quran is accused of making anti-Semitic remarks on Twitter. Mayor Bibb stated that his administration is focused on raising standards for recruitment and training to eliminate bias and racism in the force. (Cleveland 19)
  3. Ten historic buildings in Northeast Ohio will receive monies for rehabilitation projects as a part of the Ohio Historic Preservation Tax Credit Program. The state is awarding nearly $40 million in tax credits to rehabilitate 38 historic buildings throughout the state. Gov. Mike DeWine said, "Preserving historic buildings is one tool we can use to build vibrant downtowns and create opportunity on our main streets throughout the state." (WKYC.com)
