COVID-19 Cases Likely Up Again In Lakewood, Cuyahoga County

LAKEWOOD, OH — There could be as many 221 COVID-19 cases currently in Lakewood, the Cuyahoga County Board of Health announced. Ohio is seeing a statewide surge in new coronavirus cases.

Lakewood currently has between 154-221 confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to the Cuyahoga County Board of Health. Last week, Lakewood currently had between 134-195 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

The county as a whole is seeing an uptick in new cases of the virus.

At least 730 new cases were confirmed in Cuyahoga County last week, the board of health said Friday. Since the beginning of the outbreak, nearly 4,800 Cuyahoga County residents have contracted COVID-19. The county's health updates do not include statistics for the city of Cleveland.

The county has seen a steady increase in COVID-19 tests. Last week, of everyone tested in the county, nearly 6 percent tested positive for the virus. The week before, only 3.7 percent of people tested had the virus.

The county tracks COVID-19 cases by ZIP code. All ZIP codes associated with Lakewood are categorized as having between 154 and 221 COVID-19 cases. Last week, Lakewood had between 134-195 confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Gov. Mike DeWine said last week that he does not believe an increase in testing capacity is responsible for the surge in new cases. Ohio's positive test ratio continues to hold steady or increase, he said, meaning the virus is more widespread than previously thought.

The governor has been urging Ohioans to wear masks and follow health and safety guidelines. Several major Ohio cities, including Cleveland and Dayton, have made masks mandatory within city limits.

Cuyahoga County is on Public Health Emergency Level 3, DeWine announced Thursday. This means the county has seen a steady increase in COVID-19 cases and the risk of contracting the virus is widespread in the area.
