COVID-19 Cases Increase In Lakewood, Cuyahoga County

LAKEWOOD, OH — As new coronavirus cases surge throughout Ohio, Cuyahoga County and Lakewood are seeing an uptick in residents contracting COVID-19.

Lakewood currently has between 134-195 confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to the Cuyahoga County Board of Health. The county as a whole is seeing an uptick in new cases of the virus.

At least 480 cases were confirmed in Cuyahoga County last week, the board of health said. Currently, there are a total of 4,260 COVID-19 cases in Cuyahoga County, not including cases in Cleveland. Nearly 1,800 county residents have recovered from the virus.

Ohio is seeing a surge of new COVID-19 cases statewide. On Sunday, the state saw an increase in new cases, hospitalizations caused by the virus and admissions to intensive care due to the virus.

A spike in new cases tends to come before other metrics show similar upward trends.

Gov. Mike DeWine said last week that he does not believe an increase in testing capacity is responsible for the surge in new cases. Ohio's positive test ratio continues to hold steady or increase, he said, meaning the virus is more widespread than previously thought.
