🌱 Cuyahoga County Now COVID-19 Red + Average Gas Price Falls Below $4

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Lakewood.

Good morning, Lakewood! I'm back with your fresh copy of the Lakewood Daily. Here are all the most important things to know about what's happening locally...

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and nice. High: 78 Low: 67.

Here are the top three stories today in Lakewood:

  1. Cuyahoga county is now one of Ohio's 88 counties designated "red" due to high COVID-19 transmission on the most recent U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention map. Ohio has been steadily worsening since mid-July, according to the CDC maps. The state has had over 10,000 new COVID-19 cases per week since the beginning of May, due to the emerging BA.4 and BA.5 omicron subvariants, which make people feel sick longer and spread the illness to others more easily. (Cleveland.com)
  2. The average price of gas in Cuyahoga County is below $4 a gallon for the first time in almost two months. Average gas in Cuyahoga County was $3.98 a gallon on Friday, the sixth county in Greater Cleveland to fall below $4 a gallon. Geauga County is the only county left regionally above $4, at an average gas price of $4.12 a gallon. (Cleveland.com)
  3. The Department of Human Services celebrated the recent opening of Cove Community Center by hosting a monthlong Lakewood experience video contest. "A lot of our mission is celebrating diversity and inclusivity in our community and bringing the generations together for music, activities, and programming," said Human Services Director Chad Berry. "So we thought a video contest giving people the opportunity to say what Lakewood means to them and how it has impacted their life was a natural fit with the opening of Cove." (cleveland.com)
