Edgewater Park Crash: More Details Released

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the driver of the crashed car was treated for a suspected overdose.

CLEVELAND — The driver of an SUV that crashed at Edgewater Park was treated for a suspected overdose, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

A Patrol spokesperson released more details on Monday night's crash to Patch on Thursday morning.

At 11:30 p.m., a 1999 GMC Yukon was driving the wrong way on State Route 2, near the park, when a Cleveland Metroparks officer turned on his lights. The Yukon nearly struck three cars before it went off the road, hit three roadway signs, a tree and then drove into a gravel pile, an Ohio State Highway Patrol spokesperson said.

The driver was seriously injured in the crash, the Highway Patrol said. He was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center. During his treatment for a suspected overdose, he had to be restrained, law enforcement said.

The driver was cited for numerous traffic offense, including operating a vehicle impaired and not wearing a seat belt.
