🌱 Elkins Sentenced To 30 Days + Torres Claims Workplace Harassment

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Lakewood.

Good morning, everybody! I'm back with your fresh edition of the Lakewood Daily. Here's all the community news you need to know right now...

First, today's weather:

A heavy t-storm in the p.m.. High: 85 Low: 66.

Here are the top three stories in Lakewood today:

  1. Latino police officer A.J. Torres and his attorney spoke out at a news conference yesterday afternoon regarding what he claims was "repeated workplace harassment" by his former chief Anthony Campo at the Sheffield Lake police department, about 20 miles away from Lakewood. Torres is the second Sheffield Lake police officer to make allegations against Campo. The Ohio Civil Rights Commission is currently investigating three claims of racial and sexual harassment against the former chief. (Cleveland 19 News)
  2. Former Newburgh Heights mayor Trevor Elkins was sentenced to 30 days in jail on Tuesday by a Cuyahoga County Common Pleas judge. Elkins had pleaded guilty to attempted theft in office and attempted perjury in matters concerning elections. Elkins must serve one year of probation following his release from jail, and cannot run in any of the Cuyahoga County 2024 or 2028 elections. (Cleveland 19 News)
  3. Starbucks workers at the Clifton Avenue, University Circle, and Mayfield Road locations in Cuyahoga County will be voting to form a union. "Our goal is that we have so many stores that unionized that they just say, 'you know what? Let's bargain with everybody,'" said Chelsea Cruea, a Starbucks shift supervisor at the Clifton Boulevard location in Cleveland Heights. The locations started to unionize after seeing the West 6th Street store become the first in Ohio to file with the National Labor Relations Board. (News 5 Cleveland)
