Emerson Elementary 2nd Grade Classes Get 2 Grants

The money will be used to promote "deep learning" and for field trips to Northeast Ohio landmarks.

LAKEWOOD, OH — Emerson Elementary's second grade classes will benefit from nearly $3,600 in grants awarded to the school. The district said the money will be used to promote "deeper learning."

Emerson Principal Denice Leddy helped shape the grants, according to second grade teacher Mary McCool Barry. “She devoted time to multiple reviews, meeting with me and promoting the idea with administrators,” McCool Barry said.

The grants were awarded through the Martha Holden Jennings Foundation and Target. The Jennings Foundation grant is for $2,882 and is earmarked for use with a Caldecott Award-winning book study called, "Celebrating Imagination and Ingenuity."
