Eric Fortuna Named Hayes Elementary Principal

Fortuna will take over for Sandy Powers, who is retiring from the Lakewood Schools on August 1.

LAKEWOOD, OH — Eric Fortuna has been named the next principal of Hayes Elementary School.

Fortuna will replace Sandy Powers, who is retiring. The new principal will start work on August 1, the Lakewood City Schools announced.

“This is a huge honor for me and my family,” Fortuna said. “I couldn’t be happier to take this next step in my career with Lakewood and the Lakewood Schools family.”

Fortuna is currently the principal at Constellations Schools' Elyria Community Elementary School. During his tenure at the school, Elyria Community received the Momentum Award from the Ohio Department Education for receiving straight "A's" in the Value Added component of the state report card from 2016 to 2018.

He has worked as a school administrator for the past decade. Before his role in Elryia, Fortuna was assistant principal for the Parma Community Elementary School. He also worked as a science and social studies teacher for grades 5 to 8.
