The Cuyahoga Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) will hold its 62nd Annual
Meeting and Conservation Day Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at Lakewood Park Women’s Pavilion, 14532
Lake Road, from 2:30 -6:30 p.m.
This is a free, family-friendly event, with a variety of speakers and hands-on activities, including building a
rain garden and a rain barrel workshop. The annual election of the SWCD Board of Supervisors will be held
from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m.
Events include:
2:30pm – Presentation on “Birds, Bees & Butterflies”
3:30pm – Rain Gardens/Native Plants – Watch or help install a rain garden at Lakewood Park
4:30pm – All About Soils – Make it to eat it environmental craft for kids!
5:00pm – Rain Barrel Workshop – make a rain barrel to take home to use in your yard or garden. Registration
required.
The Cuyahoga SWCD program will highlight and honor individuals for their assistance in furthering
conservation goals in Cuyahoga County. This year’s honorees include:
• Emmett Keller - Educator of the Year
• Kurtz Bros., Inc. – Conservation Business of the Year
In addition to great environmental education, the Annual Meeting also provides an opportunity for
conservation-minded citizens to be elected to the Cuyahoga SWCD Board of Supervisors. Five county
residents serve voluntarily on the Cuyahoga SWCD board. This year, three outstanding candidates are
running for two open positions. This is a formal election of the state. Any Cuyahoga County resident of legal
voting age may cast a ballot at the event between 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. or by absentee ballot, which may be
obtained through our office prior to the Annual Meeting. Call 216/524-6580, ext. 10 for more information or
