In 1967, Ian Matthews (currently known as Iain Matthews) became a founding member of the British folk rock band, Fairport Convention, staying with the group for almost 2 years and appearing on the bands’ first three recordings, "Fairport Convention," "What We Did On Our Holidays" and "Unhalfbricking."
In order to facilitate and develop his growing fascination with American singer / songwriters, he formed his own band, Matthews Southern Comfort in 1969. This group spawned a massive European hit with the Joni Mitchell song "Woodstock." Within a year, Matthews began his solo career, signing with the Vertigo label. After 2 albums for the company, he joined the quartet Plainsong in 1972 with friend Andy Roberts. They chronicled the exploits of American aviator, Amelia Earhart to high critical acclaim.
Within a year Matthews was again on the move, this time changing continents in a move to Los Angeles, where he established an artist / producer relationship with ex Monkee, Michael Nesmith. Along the way he recorded a further 15 solo albums, plus several more with Plainsong, and a couple with former Pavlov's Dog founder, David Surkamp.
The incredibly prolific Iain Matthews continues to create and tour. He will be performing a solo acoustic show.
