Lakewood Historical Society: Cowan in Lakewood

After arriving in Northeast Ohio in 1908 to teach ceramics, R. Guy Cowan soon came to the attention of Cleveland’s art lovers. By 1912 he had moved to Lakewood, where the Cleveland Chamber of Commerce backed him in the formation of the Cleveland Pottery and Tile Company. To mark the Cowan Centennial, Dr. Mark Bassett, Scholar in Residence at the Cleveland Institute of Art, will give an illustrated lecture showing what Lakewood and Cleveland were like when Cowan lived and worked here.
