“Wordy and witty, soulful and well aware of the power of a pop hook, Stephen Kellogg is a prolific young roots-rock songwriter worth indulging. On the impressive new CD “The Bear,” he tackle(s) big topics - love, religion, fate, family, loss - with big melodies, surprising turns of phrase and a big heart.”
- Minneapolis Star Tribune.
Singer-songwriter Stephen Kellogg is a product of pure American ingenuity, blending the classic folk-rock tradition exemplified by Fleetwood Mac and Van Morrison with the modern-rock chops of the Counting Crows and the showmanship familiar to hard rock (or, on a good night, even stand-up comedy). Stephen will be performing a solo show.
“I first heard Tift Merritt some years ago during a writers’ night at a small club in Nashville. She stood out like a diamond in a coal patch, and everyone there knew she carried a promise of great things to come.” - Emmylou Harris.
Singer and songwriter Tift Merritt won Merlefest’s Chris Austin Songwriting contest in the year 2000, and with the help of Ryan Adams, found herself with a recording contract with Lost Highway records. Her first record, Bramble Rose, landed on Time Magazine’s and New Yorker’s top ten lists and was called the best debut of the year in any genre by the Associated Press.
