Here are the top three stories in Lakewood today:

  1. A Cuyahoga County man was arrested for allegedly throwing a plastic water bottle and hitting the Cleveland Browns owner. According to Cleveland police, 51-year-old Jeffrey Miller, of nearby Rocky River, was arrested on suspicion of assault, disorderly conduct, and failure to comply after he was spotted by stadium video surveillance throwing the bottle. A source told The Associated Press that the team intends to ban the fan — who police say appeared to be intoxicated. (Weirton Daily Times)
  2. According to an investigation by News 5, the Cleveland Division of Police locates fewer than one in five vehicles involved in hit-skips. Police state that between January 2020 and June 2022, 14,228 hit-skips were reported to the city, however, only 5,941 cases, or 42 percent, were assigned to a detective in the hit-skip unit — police say the remaining cases were quickly written off as "unsolvable" due to a lack of evidence. In the Cleveland Division of Police Mid-Year Budget Report, a backlog of 3,399 open and unsolved cases out of those 5,941 cases assigned to a detective was reported by police. (News 5 Cleveland WEWS)
  3. Recently, the city started stormwater improvements at the former Lakewood Hospital site, as residents await a new development. Crews are paving the way for the next step in the major development by making grading adjustments; they will relocate the stormwater pipe by removing trees at the corner. According to officials, the project will include 200 units of rental and for purchase housing, restaurants, retail, and significant office space. (News 5 Cleveland WEWS)
