Man Charged In Crash That Killed Lakewood Mom

Nora Swift-Kakusa was killed in a car accident in June. The man accused of hitting her vehicle has been charged with vehicular manslaughter.

LAKEWOOD, OH — The man accused of crashing into a car carrying a Lakewood mother of four has been charged with vehicular homicide. Zane Havlin will appear in court for the first time on September 4.

Nora Swift-Kakusa was killed in a car accident on June 28. Nora was 43 and is survived by her husband, Mwale, and five children.

Havlin, 25, of Lakewood, will make his first appearance in court on Tuesday, September 4. He also faces a charge for operations at a stop sign, Lakewood Police Captain Ed Hassing said in an emailed statement.

Swift-Kakusa was killed at the intersection of Franklin and Marlowe, police said. The car crash was investigated by Lakewood detectives, with help from the Ohio State Highway Patrol. After the investigation, police presented their findings to the city prosecutor, who decided to charge Havlin for vehicular manslaughter.

Hassing said he could not discuss details of the investigation and the Lakewood City Prosecutor did not immediately respond to Patch's request for comment.
