Suspect Arrested In Bank Robbery In Lakewood

LAKEWOOD, OH — The Fifth-Third Bank on W. 117th was robbed Thursday morning. Lakewood Police say they have arrested a lone suspect in connection with the incident.
The bank was robbed about 10 a.m. on Thursday. Employees at the bank called police and reported the robbery. The man did not flash a weapon, but was carrying a brown shopping bag, according to callers on the 911 call to police. He handed a note to a bank employee and asked for $100 bills, police said. The man got the money and then fled.
Witnesses described the suspect to investigators and said the man had run out of the bank. He had been seen crossing the street away from the bank.

While bank employees were on the phone with police dispatch, officers searched the area and found a man matching the suspect's description near the Madison RTA Station. The suspect, Ahmed Mohammed Khafaga, 46, was arrested, police said. RTA Police assisted with the arrest.
Khafaga, a Cleveland resident, has been charged with robbery. He is being held on a $10,000 cash or surety bond, police said. Detectives are still investigating the incident.
