Films, Music Lectures Slated at the Lakewood Public LIbrary
October lineup gets started with Robert Altman's "The Long Goodbye" on Oct. 1.
Another month in Lakewood means plenty of new opportunities to learn something new or digest something different at the .
And it's not just about books.
For example, the second movie of the library’s film series, Robert Altman’s The Long Goodbye, will be shown at 6 p.m. Oct. 1.

Raymond Chandler’s Philip Marlowe comes off the pages of the book and onto the mean streets of 1970s Southern California.
As Chandler and Bogart roll over in their graves, Altman reinvents Marlowe in the image of chain-smoking Elliott Gould.

This isn't your mother's library.
“You’re allowed to bring your own drinks, snacks and that kind of thing,” Lakewood Public Library’s Leana Donofrio-Milovan said.
The film, a mystery, will be presented by Professor Terry Meehan who will share rare clips and documentaries.
Included in this month’s planned activities are also the following programs, all of which are free and open to the public:
- Sunday With the Friends: Crossen Combat Chronicles (Sunday, October 2 at 2 p.m.) – This lecture will chronicle a Lakewoodite’s journey through World War II. This event is will take place in the library’s auditorium.
- Technology Class: Beginning Genealogy with Ancestry.com (Tuesday, October 4 at 7 p.m.) – Come and learn how to unlock your
family history using Ancestry.com under the instruction of a genealogist. - Lakewood Historical Society presents: Preserving a Streetcar Suburb (Wednesday, October 5 at 7 p.m.) – Come explore Lakewood’s walkability and accessibility through its history and future as a “streetcar suburb.”
- Rushmore (Saturday, October 8 at 6 p.m.) – Enjoy Wes Anderson’s classic film in the library’s main auditorium.
- The Dave Sterner Quintet (Sunday, October 9 at 2 p.m.) – “Expect
no agendas,” the press release for this event reads. The quintet will perform a mix of jazz, blues and funk music in the auditorium.
