Sparklers, snappers, smokers and snakes — things only little kids get excited about — are the only fireworks allowed for private use in Ohio.
The stuff people really want to see and hear — firecrackers, skyrockets, fountains and roman candles — can be purchased in Ohio but not used here. Even if bought in another state, these fireworks are against the law to have.
“Use of illegal fireworks is a ticketable offense and we will also confiscate the fireworks," said Wintrick.
The close proximity of Lakewood homes not only can cause a problem with noise, but he also points out that it can also create a fire safety hazard with Lakewood’s older homes.
“The Fourth of July is our busiest night regarding fireworks and other complaints, so we ask people to be a bit more tolerant on the Fourth,” Wintrick said.
While some communities have cut back on July 4 celebrations, Lakewood continues to offer plenty to do on the Fourth — including fireworks so there’s no need to have your own personal fireworks show.
