Gun Reportedly Seen During Fight At Lakewood High

The fight happened well after Thursday's dismissal and involved only one Lakewood student, administrators said.

LAKEWOOD, OH — A gun was allegedly seen during a fight that broke out Thursday behind Lakewood High School. Police are investigating the incident.

The fight involved one Lakewood student and a group of students that do not attend Lakewood High, according to an email that was sent to parents by Lakewood Principal Mark Walter. When the group "dispersed" the Lakewood student contacted an administrator and said that one of the non-Lakewood students had flashed a gun.

Lakewood Police were immediately contacted and a report was filed. Walter said that at no time were any other students in danger because the incident occurred well after dismissal.

Walter's full message to parents can be seen below.

"I wanted to make you aware of an incident that happened after dismissal today on LHS grounds. An LHS student was involved in a fight behind the school with a group of students who do not attend LHS. After the group dispersed, the LHS student reported to administrators that one of the youth involved flashed a firearm in his waistband. The Lakewood Police were immediately called and a report was filed that included the identity of the person with the firearm. At no time were any other students in danger as the incident occurred well after dismissal. We are grateful that our student reported seeing the firearm and encourage all students to say something if they see something that could jeopardize the safety of students and staff."
