Gunpoint Carjacking In Lakewood Over The Weekend

LAKEWOOD, OH — Police are investigating another carjacking. This one happened Saturday night when a man was ordered to hand over his car keys by two men with a gun.

The incident took place near the corner of Detroit Avenue and Matthews Avenue, according to News 5. That's not far from one of Lakewood's most popular dining and entertainment districts.

The victim was walking to a local bar when the two men came towards him with a gun. They demanded his car keys, then stole his car and drove off.

Rocky River Police actually spotted the stolen car later that night and chased it for awhile. Eventually the pursuit became dangerous and was terminated.

Carjackings have been on the rise in Lakewood, prompting the city to issue tips to residents to keep themselves safe. Some tips include:

• Keep your doors locked and windows shut when you're not in your car. Even if you're running into a gas station for just one minute, take the extra precaution and seal up your car.
• Keep your cell phone charged in case of an emergency.
• Try to avoid being alone in empty parking lots or on empty side streets.
• Park in well-lit areas.
