Just about everyone who lives in Lakewood has heard of Lakewood Alive’s Light up Lakewood event. Each year we pack the streets and celebrate the holiday season together as a community. What else speaks about community? H2O “Help to Others” is committed to bringing our community together by lending a hand, stepping in, and speaking out against negativities. Each year volunteers work hard, making beautiful hand-made crafts, trinkets, jewelry, and ornaments to sell at their “Twigbee Shop” inside of the Lakewood Public Library at the heart of Light up Lakewood. These specially crafted items are made by both high school and middle school volunteers.
You might be wondering why it is called a Twigbee shop. A Twigbee shop is an old-timey type store where children could buy gifts for a person they care about, and no grown-ups were allowed. Now don’t be worried, of course everyone is welcome in our Twigbee shop! It is meant to be reminiscent of those times and to truly emphasize the idea that what we are selling isn’t meant to be expensive, it is all actually very reasonably priced. It supports the idea of children being able to purchase the items because they are inexpensive, gorgeous and they have the special touch of something hand-made that comes from the heart.
When you buy your gift for a loved one, or take a child to do the same, you can purchase your special gift knowing all of the proceeds go to a good cost—H2O volunteers then go out and use the money to buy Christmas presents for children to light up their lives a little bit, spreading love, joy, and holiday spirit. Come visit us at the Twigbee shop!! We’ll be in the Lakewood Public Libraries Main Branch—RIGHT NEXT TO SANTA!! Happy Holidays!
