Husband Threatens To Blow Up Lakewood Home

The man called his wife on Saturday night and said he was going to use the home's gas supply to blow up the house and kill himself.

LAKEWOOD, OH — A Lakewood man threatened to kill himself by blowing up his home on Saturday, police say. The man called his wife and told her he was planning on turning on the gas in the home and using that to explode the house.

The woman contacted officers at about 9:45 p.m. Police say the couple were in an ongoing domestic dispute, but the wife and the couple's children were not at home.

Officers went to the scene and and detected the smell of natural gas. The electric and gas companies were then called to the scene. Homes on Parkwood Avenue and Bunts Road, between Detroit Road and Franklin Boulevard, were evacuated. The streets were also closed as a precaution.

The utilities in the home were turned off and then police went into the home. No one was found inside the house. All gas utilities in the home that were left on were turned off, the home was ventilated, and evacuated residents were allowed to return home.

The husband eventually turned himself into Lakewood Police. He was arrested for Attempted Aggravated Arson and Inducing Panic. Prosecutors will review the case on Monday.
