Hydrant Flushing Begins In Lakewood

Discolored water may appear in your tap during the flushing. If the problem doesn't clear up after a few hours, call the city.

LAKEWOOD, OH - Fire hydrant testing began in earnest throughout the city on May 1. Testing will continue until approximately June 16, the city says. All testing will be conducted on weekdays.

During this time, you may notice discolored water from your tap. The discoloration should only law for a few hours, as the sediment settles. Your water should run clean and clear after a few hours. The discoloration is likely due to the release of minerals that have built-up in the Lakewood water mains.

You should also check the water in your washing machine because discolored water could alter the color of your clothes. Discolored water is common in all cities that conduct hydrant flushes. In nearby Westlake, for instance, residents were recently advised that rusty-looking water could be coming to a sink near them.
