Ice Cream Eating Contest Coming To Lakewood

LAKEWOOD, OH — Cool temperatures and overcast skies have become commonplace in Northeast Ohio. Despite appearances, summer won't officially conclude until September 21 and one Lakewood business plans to send the season out with a bang.

Addicted Coffee and Ice Cream is throwing its first annual Addicted Colossal Sundae Challenge. The event will feature an ice cream eating contest, prize giveaways and carnival-style games for kids and families. The festivities also happen to coincide with the final day of summer.

Vince Brunori, Addicted's owner, said he wanted to give back to the community through the event, while further connecting Addicted to its neighbors. "We spend a lot of time getting to know our customers and we want to always bring a community vibe to everything we do," he told Patch.

The sundae challenge will be broken into three age groups: 5-9, 10-14 and 15 and up. Each grouping will feature eight contestants and each age-group winner will receive a gift basket filled with apparel and gift certificates. Winners will also have their photos taken and possibly mounted on the wall of the Madison Avenue shop.

To register for the contest, avid ice cream enthusiasts can wander into Addicted, pay a registration fee of $5 and then show up on Saturday, September 21. Alternatively, contestants can sign-up on the day of the event between 11 a.m. and noon. The sundae eating will start at 12 p.m.

The event will actually be held under the canopy of the Lakewood Firestone Tire Pros, 13740 Madison Ave., across the street from Addicted, Brunori said. The added space will create room for ring-toss games for kids and other activities.
