Hello, friends! It's me, Carla Varner, your host of the Lakewood Daily — back in your inbox with all the most important things happening in town.

First, today's weather:

Nice with plenty of sunshine. High: 82 Low: 69.

Here are the top three stories today in Lakewood:

  1. Thirty-six-year-old Franklin Kutz of Westlake pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court on Thursday. 2. University Hospitals is drastically reducing medical services available at UH Bedford and UH Richmond medical centers beginning Aug. 12 due to workforce challenges. UH Bedford and UH Richmond medical centers will no longer offer inpatient, surgical, and emergency services. 3. Cleveland Council members Brian Mooney, Kerry McCormack, Jenny Spencer, Rebecca Maurer, and Stephanie Howsey introduced legislation on Tuesday that would ban the practice of conversion therapy on children within the community. The ordinance would prohibit all mental health professionals working in the city from "knowingly engag[ing] ... in sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression change efforts with a minor, without regard to whether the mental health professional is compensated or receives any form of remuneration for his or her services."
