The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Lakewood.

Happy Monday, people of Lakewood! Let's get this day started. Here's everything worth knowing today in Lakewood.

First, today's weather:

Not as warm; a morning shower. High: 65 Low: 53.

Here are the top three stories in Lakewood today:

  1. Are you planning to participate in Lakewood's annual Fourth of July Parade this year? If so, mark your calendars: Applications to participate will be available beginning next Tuesday, May 24, via the city's website. You can also email commrel@lakewoodoh.net to receive an application by email, or call (216) 529-6650 and leave a message with your address to have a paper application mailed to you. This year's parade will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, Jul. 4, 2022. The route begins at Kenneth & Lake Avenues and heads east to Lakewood Park. (City of Lakewood)
  2. Lakewood native Michael Kilbane, a four-star outside linebacker/defensive end for St. Edward High School, has officially committed to Northwestern University. The student-athlete, who graduates in 2023, had received 30 offers from various schools before he decided to continue his football career with the Wildcats. Kilbane gave an interview with national recruiting analyst Clint Cosgrove of Rivals.com about why he chose to end his recruiting process early, how Northwestern plans on utilizing him on defense, and more. From my notebook:

  • The City of Lakewood, Ohio wrote a post of gratitude to all of Lakewood's dedicated police officers in honor of National Police Week. This week (May 15 to 21) pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. (Facebook)

  • Is your teen a girl who loves to code? Send her to the Lakewood Public Library tonight (May 16) at 6:00 p.m. to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Scratch with a drop-in program. Students in 6th through 12th grade can complete the challenge and earn a button or charm. Learn more on the library's website. (Lakewood Public Library)
