LAKEWOOD, OH — Lakewood has a new electric vehicle charging station.

"Lakewood is committed to a clean environment. From the tens of millions of dollars we’ve spent updating our wastewater system to reducing our carbon footprint with solar panels on our buildings, and now this--our third publicly available electric vehicle charging station in Lakewood," Mayor Meghan George said in a statement sent to Patch.

The newest charging station is at the intersection of Detroit and Parkhaven, near Raising Cane's. George said city officials leveraged the Cane's development to improve stormwater management in the area and add green infrastructure.

"We also installed this EV charging station, which Raising Cane's purchased for the City to own and operate on the public right-of-way near their location at Parkhaven and Detroit. I am grateful to Raising Cane’s for their partnership in this project," George said.

Other charging stations are at Serpentini Arena Winterhurst and at City Center.

"We’re pursuing projects which are also good for Lakewood’s taxpayers, with return-on-investment and alignment with City standards and priorities being key components in our decision making," the mayor said.
