Lakewood Business Owners Work With Harding Students

Harding 6th grade advanced social studies students had the opportunity to learn about economics and how to be an entrepreneur by collaborating with several Lakewood small business owners. The owners of Brewella’s Coffee and Crepes, Stem Handmade Soap, Root Cafe, Lion and Blue, Freddy Hill Designs, Everarbore Co., Norris Family Chiropractics, and CARE Nonprofit spent the day sharing and working with our young entrepreneurs.

The students researched issues facing our environment today such as plastic in the oceans and excessive clothing in the landfills. They created podcasts, videos, and presentations sharing their findings and statistics. They then came up with an upcycled product idea, environmental service, or public awareness campaign to do their part in helping to mitigate the problems.

As they met with our local business owners they learned how to move into production in preparation for their Market Day in May where they will have the chance to sell their products to Harding students and staff.

They will also be invited to be a part of our annual Harding Shark Tank, also in May, where they will be given the chance to pitch their ideas to a panel of expert entrepreneurs from Lakewood. The proceeds from their businesses will be donated to the environmental organizations of their choosing.
