Lakewood Cancels July 4th Parade, Fireworks, Other Summer Events

In response to the new coronavirus, city officials have cancelled a slate of summer events.

LAKEWOOD, OH — Lakewood's annual Independence Day parade and fireworks display has been cancelled, Mayor Meghan George announced on Wednesday. City officials are also cancelling a slate of summer events and extending closures of many facilities.

The upcoming Meet the Trucks event and the Summer Solstice celebration have also been canceled. All pavilion rentals in Lakewood are cancelled through June 30.

“I am committed to protecting Lakewood’s health and safety while maximizing opportunity for our businesses to succeed,” said Mayor Meghan George in a statement on the city's website.

Lakewood public pools will open July 1, the Lakewood dog park and skate park will open June 1, and the senior center facility and playgrounds will remain closed until further notice. City officials said the opening of the public pools could be changed.

The Lakewood tax office will reopen to the public on June 1. Visitors should call 216-529-6620 to make an appointment for in-person visits. The building will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

"With our exceptional population density, we must be more vigilant than other communities if we are to remain healthy and safe. Therefore, with public safety as a top priority, we are announcing additional cancellations and modifications to City sponsored events and services," George said.
