Lakewood Carjacking Spree: 1 Woman Shot, 4 Cars Stolen

In a scene more fit for a video game than suburban life, officers chased a suspect throughout the city Saturday morning.

LAKEWOOD, OH — A 27-year-old man went on a carjacking spree through Lakewood on Saturday morning. The suspect stole four cars, shot a woman and threw a 65-year-old woman to the ground. The man was eventually taken into custody by Lakewood Police.

At about 9:30 a.m., officers were called to the Emerald Necklace Marina for a possible carjacking. There were reports of shots fired.

When Lakewood Police arrived the Cleveland Metroparks Rangers were already on the scene and were treating a woman who had been shot in the leg. Officers learned that a male suspect had escaped the scene in a 2015 Hyundai Sonata.

That Sonata was found abandoned in the middle of the street on Sloane Avenue. The suspect had switched cars, stealing a 2017 Dodge Ram pick-up truck. That vehicle had been left unlocked with its engine running.

The Ram was spotted near Nicholson Avenue. However, the truck was then found abandoned on Edgewater Drive, near Marine Towers East building.

The suspect had again switched cars. This time, he attacked a 65-year-old woman in the parking garage of Marine Towers East, throwing her to the ground and stealing her 2011 Dodge Caliber. He then drove the car through the apartment building's closed garage door.

Police tracked the car to Lake Avenue where they were able to box the vehicle in. Seeing no way out, the suspect surrendered to police without further incident.

Lakewood Police said the suspect is a 27-year-old man from Cleveland. He may have been involved in a series of carjackings in Cleveland on Friday night, police said. The suspect has been turned over to Cleveland Police.
