Lakewood Citizens Police Academy Starts In Early 2020
Residents can learn how the police department works and schedule a ride-along with a patrol officer.

LAKEWOOD, OH — The Lakewood Police Citizens' Academy starts January 8, 2020. The 10-week program will give residents an inside looking into the workings of the city's police department.
Meetings of the police academy will be held every Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Lakewood Police Department. Sessions will continue until March 11, 2020.
"The Citizens Police Academy is for Lakewood residents or people who work in Lakewood, 21 years of age or older, who are interested in learning more about the Division of Police," the city said. "There is no fee to attend. During the sessions, students will be presented with information, and hands on activities to familiarize them with a variety of policing issues in Lakewood."

Besides listening to speakers and learning more about how the department works, police academy attendees can also schedule a ride-along with a patrol officer.
Applications for the program can be found online. The deadline to apply is Friday, December 20, 2019.
