Lakewood City Councilperson Becomes Leader Of North Shore AFL-CIO
Dan O'Malley was elected the organization's new executive secretary this week.

LAKEWOOD, OH — Lakewood City Councilperson Dan O'Malley has been elected executive secretary of the North Shore AFL-CIO.
O'Malley, 35, is the Ward 4 representative on City Council, a seat he has held since 2015. His involvement with organized labor extends further into his biography.
O'Malley spent eight years with Working America, working for two years as the group's state director for Ohio, before becoming campaigns director for the North Shore AFL-CIO. He is a member of the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU) Local 1794 and American Federation of Musicians (AFM) Local 4.

He now ascends to the top leadership position in the North Shore AFL-CIO, a move he credited to the diverse coalition of union workers who supported his election.
“As a fourth generation union member, it's the honor of a lifetime to be leading the Greater Cleveland labor movement,” O’Malley said. “We have incredible challenges and opportunities and I will work hard every day to address them both."

O'Malley told Patch his new role with the AFL-CIO will be more work, but he is "absolutely committed to making sure that the citizens of Lakewood are still served well."
O'Malley also said he does not believe there will be any conflict of interest between his role on City Council and his role with the North Shore AFL-CIO.
