Lakewood Community Festival Set For Sept. 9

The festival will celebrate its 30th birthday in 2017. Expect inflatables, games and fun for the whole family that Saturday.

LAKEWOOD, OH — Rain, sleet, snow, or shine the Lakewood Community Festival will celebrate its 30th birthday on Sept. 9. The bringing together of the community will start at 11 a.m. in Madison Park and will includes activities for the whole family to partake in.

The festival will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the park, 13029 Madison Ave. The city says attendees can expect craft and game booths, bounce houses, inflatable obstacle courses and other children's games this year. Adults will be able to dine on all kinds of food, including stuffed cabbage, pierogies, potato cakes, cabbage and noodles, kielbasa, sauerkraut, pizza and more. There will also be traditional ethnic baked goods and desserts.

There will also be live music to keep folks entertained and happy during the festival. Some of the bands include Victor Samalot, Crawley & Hopper, Birdtown Boys and the Polka Pirates. (Subscribe to the Patch Lakewood newsletter for local news and updates.)

The festival is a celebration of the city's ethnic heritage and communities. As such, the city will sell old street signs at the festival for $25. The signs can only be purchased with cash. The signs are in good condition, the city said.

The Community Festival is considered the last summer event for the city. Proceeds from the festival will be donated to local organizations. And the event will be held rain or shine.
