🌱 Police Simulate Gunfire At Schools + Temperatures To Soar Into 90s
The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Lakewood.
Hello all. It's me, Carla Varner, your host of the Lakewood Daily — back in your inbox with everything you need to know about what's happening in the community today. Let's do it...
First, today's weather:
Increasingly windy. High: 91 Low: 74.
Here are the top three stories today in and around Lakewood:
- The Brecksville-Broadview Heights school board will continue to prohibit teachers from carrying firearms or other deadly weapons in school buildings. Board President Mark Dosen stated the position at the Jun. 29 school board meeting. This was in response to House Bill 99, signed into law Jun. 13 by Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, which significantly reduces the number of training hours district employees would need to carry weapons in a school. (Cleveland.com)
- Police in nearby Westlake and Shaker Heights warned the public to not be alarmed if they noticed an increased law enforcement presence at area schools yesterday, Tuesday, July 19. U.S. Marshals would be conducting a training exercise from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the city school administrative offices building on Hilliard Boulevard. Westlake police said that there will be scenarios that include shouting and simulated gunfire inside the building. (Cleveland 19)
- Lakewood residents should prepare for extreme heat. Temperatures are predicted to soar into the 90s today and every day this week. The hottest day of the week is expected to be today, Jul. 20, with a high of 94 degrees in the afternoon. The evening will bring scattered storms with the potential for damaging winds, large hail, heavy rain, and frequent lightning. (Cleveland 19)
