LAKEWOOD, OH — Lakewood dog owners will need to renew or buy a dog license in the next two months.

Both Cuyahoga County and Lakewood require residents to have licenses for dogs. The state offers a two month window, from December 1 through January 31, to get a dog license. If a dog owner tries to buy a license at another time, there will be a late fee equal to the cost of the license.

Lakewood officials reminded pet owners that a dog license isn't just the law — it's also a way to bring a lost pup home.

"Save your dog the trouble of a night in the shelter and always keep them in a collar and ID tag. Register your dog today! Donations help area animal shelters care for homeless dogs," Lakewood officials said on social media.
