Renewable Energy Credits, or RECs, are tradable credits that give the owner the legal right to use renewable energy from a specific source. RECs are held to strict consumer and environmental standards, assuring that the energy used is in fact clean and consumer-friendly.
"I am confident that the precedent Lakewood is creating through this partnership will encourage other communities around Northeast Ohio to consider these kinds of energy contracts and make the move toward cleaner energy. And when they do, NOPEC is ready to help them make it happen like in our partnership with the City of Lakewood," said Chuck Keiper, executive director of NOPEC.
