Lakewood Extends Closure Of Some Park Facilities Through May 31
The parks remain open to residents. All city-sponsored events will also be canceled through the end of May.

LAKEWOOD, OH — Lakewood officials have decided to extend the closure of municipal parks for group events through at least May 31. All city-sponsored events have also been canceled due to the continued spread of the new coronavirus. The parks remain open to individuals.
"Public health and safety are my top priorities,” said Mayor Meghan George. “I am encouraged by the progress we are making in Ohio to flatten the curve. However, I have also seen the number of COVID-19 cases in Lakewood steadily increase each week in data released by the Cuyahoga County Board of Health."
Based on the latest information from the county health department, Lakewood has between 21 and 35 COVID-19 cases. The unique demographics and geographical makeup of the city means COVID-19 could remain a threat in Lakewood longer than other cities.

"We live in the most densely populated community in Ohio. That makes Lakewood exceptional and, as such, we must take exceptional steps to protect ourselves. I am taking every precaution possible to protect the citizens of Lakewood from COVID-19. I recognize the costs to our community and I am still resolved that this is the right course for us to protect our own health and our neighbors’," George said.
All pavilion rentals at Lakewood parks have been canceled. The KLB Spring Humus Sale & Adopt-Spot Flower Pick-up has also been canceled.

Parks remain open to the public but not for group activities. Residents should continue to follow social distance guidelines when out and about.
George said decisions about events beyond May 31 have not been finalized, but residents should expect additional cancellations.
