LAKEWOOD, OH — Lakewood will extend its moratorium on metered parking through at least June 1, the city announced this week.

“This pandemic isn’t just a public health crisis — it’s an economic crisis, as well,” Mayor Meghan George said. “Lakewood is being hit especially hard because we have such a concentration of proud small businesses. We are going to give every advantage that city hall can afford to Lakewood businesses so they can succeed.”

The city first announced its metered parking moratorium on March 18.

“We heard businesses in Lakewood when they asked us to help in March with a moratorium on metered parking and we responded. On June 1st, we’ll resume metered parking enforcement to encourage turnover in those parking spots and a higher level of customer flow for our small businesses," George added.

Lakewood also awarded 118 grants to small businesses through a rent relief program. The grants were worth a total of $187,492. The program reimbursed one month's rent to businesses in an attempt to mitigate the economic impact of the new coronavirus pandemic in Lakewood.
