Lakewood Farmers Markets Return, Program To Help Seniors
The Lakewood Division of Aging is offering $50 of farmers market coupons to eligible seniors.

LAKEWOOD, OH — With summer in full swing, the Lakewood Farmers Market will be bringing fresh crops to residents on Thursdays and Saturdays. During the 2017 season, there will also be a coupon program for eligible seniors to use at the markets.
On Saturdays, the market will be held from 10 a.m to 1 p.m. at Lakewood Town Center, on Detroit Avenue. The LEAF Community Farmers Market will be held on Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the main branch of the Lakewood Public Library, 15425 Detroit Ave.

Through the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program, eligible seniors can receive $50 in coupons to be used for locally grown produce at the markets. Mobite Products will be accepting coupons from the Lakewood Division of Aging and the Western Reserve Area Agency on Aging.
"The Lakewood Division of Aging and The Western Reserve Area Agency on aging are pleased to be able to offer lower income senior the opportunity to purchase fresh, locally grown produce, while at the same time, connecting with their neighbors at local farmers markets," a spokesperson for the Lakewood Division of Aging said in an emailed statement to Patch.

To be eligible for the program, participants must be 60 years of age or older, must be Lakewood residents, and must fall within income guidelines. The Division of Aging said the participants must be making $22,311 or less for a single-person household, or $30,044 or less for a two-person household.
To apply for the program, would-be participants must fill out an application form at either the Lawther Center, 16024 Madison Ave. or Senior Center East, 12400 Madison Ave.
Participants will be selected via a lottery system. Winners of the lottery will be announced at the Lawther Center on July 7 at 12:30 p.m. Participants do not need to be present to win.
For those that don't win the coupons on July 7, their names will be kept on-file in case additional coupons are received for distribution. Call the Division of Aging Activities Office at 216-529-5005 with any other questions or concerns.
