LAKEWOOD, OH — Lakewood firefighters rescued a dog from the shores of Lake Erie over the weekend. The animal was found on the shores of the lake, near Lake Avenue.

Firefighters actually spotted the dog on Saturday, but lake conditions were too dangerous to attempt a rescue. The dog found shelter in a pile of boulders and neighbors threw him sausages to feed him, Lakewood Fire Chief Tim Dunphy said.

"The dog appeared to be in good condition," Dunphy said.

The dog became trapped while playing in a low-water area. When the lake level rose due to the weekend's storms, the dog was trapped.

Firefighters came back to get the dog on Sunday morning. The lake had settled, allowing firefighters to grab the dog. The animal was healthy and in good condition.
